What are the Australian Standard safety sign colours?

The standard colours listed below are from AS1319-1994 safety signs for the occupational environment to help control safety-related behaviour:

  • Danger signs – Red oval shape with a white border, ‘DANGER’ in white lettering over a black background. Sign wording is black on white.
  • Warning signs – Yellow triangle with black border, black image within the triangle. Sign wording is black on yellow.
  • Mandatory signs – Blue circle with white symbol. Sign wording is black on white.
  • Prohibition signs – Red annulus and slash with black symbol. Sign wording is black on white.
  • No smoking signs – Red annulus and slash with black cigarette picto. Sign wording is black on white.
  • First aid and emergency information signs (such as emergency assembly area) – White symbol and wording on a green background. White border for contrast.
  • Fire safety signs – White symbols and wording on a red background. White border for contrast.
